||Smoothness (it’s a trap!) (note to self) (your skin works for you)
For those of you who are triggered by feeling bumps or varying textures on the skin…
we often pick in a reaction to that texture in an attempt to “fix” the area and make it smooth and “right” — this is one of the aspects of derma very much akin to OCD.
Friendly reminder for when you feel skin like this:
Look at the spot that you felt on your skin. See it? Often small, not even red. Healthy, intact skin. It may seem like a big deal right now, but that’s just your derma voice talking. It’s so tiny. Compare it to the size of our galaxy and tell me again why it’s so important. Inhale, exhale, look away. Move along. Grab a fidget. Guess what? It will go away on it’s own! Less work. No time wasted on your skin when you could be doing something incredible. Guess what else? If you try to scrape it off, sure the skin may feel smoother at first, but it will actually be much worse off than before. A scab will form and you’ll probably pick it off again. And again. Where did we get? Nowhere. Backwards, actually. Your skin is a big organ. It works for you. It does its job quite well. Don’t abuse it!
